Disable Cortana in Windows 10 PC: Follow these Few Simple Steps

Microsoft integrates its Digital Personal Assistant Cortana with the Windows 10 operating system, and with each update, the company integrates Cordana with Windows 10. When it lends itself to some, search for it, display notifications, set reminders, and many more, many of us do not like the interruptions it presents, we just want to turn it off.

Here's how to turn off Cortana temporarily or permanently on your Windows 10 computer.

How to temporarily disable Cortana

If you do not want Cortana to respond to your voice commands but are available for manual execution, you can follow these steps:

1. Click on the Cordana icon located in the taskbar next to the search box.
2. Click on the three vertical dots inside the application to open the drop-down menu.
3. Click "Settings" and select the "Keyboard Shortcut" option.
4. Now disable the keyboard shortcut.
5. Restart your PC for the changes to take effect.
6. Now open the settings panel to change the "Voice Activation" option by repeating the steps above.
7. Select the voice activation permissions and turn off "Cordana"

Following these steps will stop Cortana from accidentally operating. However, it is still available when you need it and it will not affect your search experience.

How to permanently disable Cortana

This step is a bit cumbersome, we recommend that you do not do this unless you have a system wizard, or create at least one restore point on your Windows system to go back if something goes wrong. Here you need to edit the Windows registry, which in some cases crashes or crashes the Windows partition, so do it at your own risk.

1. Open the keyboard shortcut with Windows + R.
2. Type “Regedit” and press enter.
3. Now go to "HKEY_Local_Machine> SOFTWARE> Policies> Microsoft> Windows" in the registry.
4. In Windows, right-click and select New> Key.
5. Name the new folder "Windows Search".
6. Right-click on the folder and select New> DWORD (32-bit) value.
7. Name this new file “AllowCortana” and double-click on it to open it.
8. Set the value to 0 and click OK.
9. Restart your computer.
